Wonder Workshop: Girls in Science
This is a drop-off, 3 hour program celebrating National Girls and Women in Science Day! To celebrate National Girls and Women in Science Day join this amazing STEM and science based workshop in a section for girls*! Learn about the careers of women in STEM, become a mad scientist by making explosive experiments, and more. Explore the world of science in a class made just for you! A pizza dinner and beverage will be served, or you can bring your own meal. *CMEC is committed to improving gender equity and representation in STEM. Our programs for girls are inclusive and welcoming to gender expansive students (cisgender and transgender girls, nonbinary or gender non-conforming students, and any other girl-identifying youth).
This is a 3-hour drop-off program celebrating National Engineering Week! Spend an evening celebrating National Engineering Week at the museum, while parents enjoy a night out. What causes engineering failures? Why do bridges collapse, or what causes boats to sink? Engineer and test your own boats and bridges to see where they fail. Construct a model building and test it to see if it can withstand natural disasters! A pizza dinner and beverage will be served, or you can bring your own meal.
Learn how sound is made, and the different ways we can see sound! Students will learn about music and physics through interactive activities like making string telephones, visualizing sound with rice, building simple instruments, and exploring vibrations with household items.
Learn the basics of cardboard construction, then build a fun house you might see at a carnival, with added features like wobbly floors, mirrored rooms, and secret passages. You get to be the designer, the architect, and the engineer all in one!
